Surface Preparation
Existing finishes: Strip to bar metal by sanding with P80 grit sandpaper and featheredge with P180 grit Sandpaper. Clean the surface with metal prep solutions (thinner cleaner) and have it free of dirt, oil, grease, paint, rust, and moisture.
Steel: Degrease and abrade with P80 grit sandpaper. After use,
Clean equipment with nitrocellulose thinner (within the pot life of the product).
Application Method
Condition during Application:
It is recommended that the steel temperature should be min. 3C above the dew point of the air in the vicinity of the steel.
Application Process:
Mixing: Mix desired amount of putty on clean flat, non-porous surface such as glass, metal, or plastic tray. Use approximately 2-3 gm of cream hardener/100 gm of the putty. Mix thoroughly to a uniform colour using a plastic spreader or putty knife. Mix with firm pressure using smooth back and forth wiping motion.
Application: Use a putty knife or flexible blade to spread a thin layer of the mixture on to the surf ace prepared. Employ enough pressure to assure maximum adhesion work up thickness and overlap edges of damaged area and to eliminate any air bubbles. Repeat this operation until the patch is slightly higher than the surrounding metal to allow for sanding. (Do not return unused mixing material back in the can or use mixing tool to remove putty from can.)
Sanding: Sanding primary by use coarse sand paper such as P80 grit paper and finer sanding for featheredging (P180 grit paper). Best results obtained by using a random orbital motion by hand or sanding machine. Wait approximately 45-60 min. then prime and paint as required.
