Working between chemical producers and paint and adhesive manufacturers across three continents gives us a useful vantage point. Here are three themes that keep coming up in conversations on both sides of the market this year.
1. Supply security is now a boardroom topic
Manufacturers who once bought on price alone are asking different questions: How consistent is this factory’s quality? What happens if a shipment is delayed? Who do I call? Buyers are actively consolidating around supply routes they trust — and paying closer attention to who stands behind the transaction.
2. Total landed cost beats headline price
More purchasing teams are doing the full maths: material price plus freight, plus documentation delays, plus the cost of quality failures, plus the hours spent chasing suppliers. On that measure, factory-direct sourcing with proper support frequently beats the cheapest trader quote.
3. Producers are looking beyond their home regions
Producers in Asia and Europe are increasingly serious about Africa and Latin America — not as overflow markets, but as growth priorities. The ones making progress are those investing in local relationships rather than waiting for enquiries to arrive.
